Introducing the RockBass Corvette Special Edition
One of the biggest buzzes at the Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA was the launch of the new RockBass line of basses by Warwick. Met with widespread enthusiasm, the RockBass line has already exceeded all of our dreams in regards to quality of construction, materials used and excellence in tone and playability. The next few Product Spotlight articles will highlight each of the new RockBass models, introducing you to the newest members of the Warwick family. To start it off, we give you the RockBass Corvette Special Edition (SE).

From the very first moment that you lay eyes on this bass, it is not hard to see what makes it a special edition. click for larger viewWarwick's ace design team took a two-piece alder body and put a stunning AAA flamed maple cap on it, making it one of the most visually striking RockBasses available. The bass is also given a high-polish finish that deepens the flame and really makes the grain pop. Believe it or not, as good as these accompanying photos are, the Corvette Special Edition looks even better in person. Finally, like all of the RockBass models, the Corvette SE features a precision-shaped maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard.

On the electronics side of things, the RockBass Corvette SE comes loaded with two MEC Gold active J-style pickups. These pickups give you a clean, punchy performance, while also remaining studio-quiet. Warwick had the tone gurus at MEC match their MEC "gold" active pickups with a great sounding click for larger view2-band preamp. Most of all, you will appreciate how easy it is to dial in your favorite tone, whether it is on stage or in the studio.

From a player's point of view, the RockBass Corvette SE is a pure joy to play. When worn with a strap, the bass balances at a very comfortable angle, with the neck tilting gently up. The string spacing is such that it will favor pick players, finger stylists and mad slappers. I particularly liked the placement of the pickups, which gave me two very useable thumb rests. All in all, this bass provides a wonderful musical experience.

Available in either 4 or 5-string versions, the RockBass Corvette SE will be showing up in music stores in March 2002. If you have any questions regarding this instrument, feel free to email me at DaleT@danabgoods.com.
