go back Jorge Casas / Gloria Estefan & The Miami Sound Machine
Twenty years of collaboration and production with Gloria and Emilio Estefan has brought bassist Jorge Casas much success and recognition. From his Grammy Awards and Grammy nominations to the multiple Platinum and Gold albums he has produced, he can look upon an ongoing career that sparkles with achievements and accomplishments.

After enrolling in the renowned music school at the University of Miami - and upon graduating in 1983 with a music degree in Studio Music & Jazz - Jorge continued to develop his career in Miami, performing locally with his band, The Company (from 1981 to 1986). The band eventually became The Miami Sound Machine, the band behind Gloria Estefan. Jorge soon afterward became the Musical Director and leader of the band. A few months later, Jorge was asked by Emilio to do a different arrangement of Gloria's song 'Anything For You'. The song had already been recorded and was set to be released on the "Let It Loose" album. After re-working it, 'Anything For You' went on to become Gloria's first number 1 hit song on the Billboard charts. This would be the first of numerous hit songs co-written and co-produced by Jorge. The rest, as they say, is history. For more on Jorge's prolific career, please visit his myspace at www.myspace.com/thefringe21.

In August of 2006 Jorge was hired by the music department at Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois as a full time instructor and artist in residence. "I am grateful and thank God for his blessings in this once in a lifetime opportunity for me to be able to pass on to young music students all that I have learned in my years in the music business."

In addition to his academic job, Jorge is also involved with a production team called Red Rock Studios. Based in Miami, Red Rock includes long time Gloria Estefan keyboardist and co-producer Clay Ostwald and current Gloria Estefan and Santana guitarist Tommy Anthony. Together they produce music for companies such as Tokyo Disney. Jorge also works with a few up-and-coming local bands from Greenville College like Photoside Café and The Silent Film.

A little known fact about Jorge is that he appeared on the 1992 "Coverdale/Page" record featuring Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and former Deep Purple and current Whitesnake vocalist David Coverdale.

Jorge says he was "introduced" to Warwick basses in 1989 and "immediately became attached to their great wood, electronics, feel & construction."

Jorge has also played with Jon Secada, Bob James, Paquito D'Rivera, Steve Gadd, David Liebman, Shakira, Carlos Ponce, Blood Sweat & Tears. David Coverdale, Jimmy Page, Prince, Patti LaBelle, Tony Bennett, Don Grolnick, Julio Iglesias, Gloria Estefan, Whoopie Goldberg, Steve Stills, Paul Simon, Arturo Sandoval, Tito Puente, Sheila E., Israel 'Cachao' Lopez, Michael Tilson Thomas, Madonna, Prince, Dave Grusin, Ed Calle, Nestor Torrez, Pia Zadora, Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin.
